Aims

  • To develop the advanced knowledge and skills needed to design and implement a research project in business/management at doctoral level.

Content

  • Identifying the research question;
  • Designing and implementing the research project;
  • Analysing and writing up the results;
  • Identifying potential difficulties and how they might be overcome.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:

  • By the end of the module students should:
  • be able to identify theoretically relevant research questions;
  • be able to identify ways in which those questions might be addressed.

Subject-specific Skills:

  • By the end of the module students should have:
  • enhanced their acquisition of the advanced skills necessary to access, collect and analyse data and summarise the results.

Key Skills:

  • By the end of the module students should have further enhanced their acquisition of the advanced skills needed to plan, implement, report, and manage a programme of research.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • The learning outcomes will be met through a combination of lectures, guided reading, group and individual exercises including the use of case studies.
  • The assessment of the module, by research proposal, is designed to test students ability to identify a relevant research question, and how it might be addressed using appropriate advanced research skills.
