Tuition Fees - How Much Are They?

This page provides information about fees for postgraduate research degrees. For more information about fees for postgraduate taught degrees, please check our course records.

Tuition fees are grouped according to the subject area shown in the table below.

General Principles

  1. Fees are per annum unless otherwise stated. All figures are GBP (£) unless otherwise stated.
  2. Fees are set by year of entry,
  3. For students starting in 2024/25, and unless noted specifically otherwise, fees will remain the same for the duration of a course.
  4. For students starting their programme in 2025/26 (and later), fees will be subject to an annual inflationary increase and are expected to rise throughout the programme of study. The fee listed on the course database is for the first year of the course only; fees for subsequent years will be confirmed not less that 3 months before the start of the academic year to which the increase is intended to apply and will be published on the Finance webpages.
  5. In deciding the annual level of increase the University will take into account inflationary pressures on the costs of delivery.
  6. Tuition fees will rise annually by up to the higher of;
    1. 6%, or,
    2. the latest annual percentage increase in the Consumer Prices Index.
  7. EU students will pay the overseas fee for the duration of their course.

Operating Principles

  1. Home/Islands fees for 2025/26 are set in line with grants awarded by Research Councils, which are usually released in the April of the previous academic year.
  2. Overseas students entering from 2016/17 will pay the same fee for the duration of their course, i.e. with no annual increases.
  3. Overseas students who receive concessions to extend their studies will not be moved onto a different fee band as long as the extension is no longer than one year. Where the extension is greater than one year, students will be moved onto the fee band for students who started the same number of years later.
