Global Sports Award: International Scholarship 

We are delighted to offer a number of Global Sports Awards - for European / International fee paying undergraduate students in 2026/27.   The awards will support the tuition fee costs of candidates who demonstrate the ability to compete in high performance sport.  Preference will be given to our target markets of USA, Canada and South Africa but applicants from other countries can be considered. 

 

Amount

Up to a maximum of £5,000 per year subject to sport performance level

Year of Entry

2026 Entry only

Please note recipients are not able to transfer or defer their scholarship. The scholarship is valid only for use by award winners in the academic year for which the award has been made. Applicants who choose to defer entry will be considered for awards available in the relevant year of entry. Acceptance of an award before deferral does not guarantee an award offer during the subsequent year of entry.

Global Sport Awards are available for most Durham University undergraduate programmes.

The following programmes will be excluded from the Global Sport Awards:

  • Foundation programmes
  • All Law programmes

Standard completion timescales of academic programmes. (Excluding year out/placement years)

Eligibility

Applicants must

  • have been assessed by Durham University as European or International fee status.
  • demonstrate the ability to compete in high performance sport
  • agree to play an active part in University or College sport at Durham University

 

Further information

Applicants must be completely self-funding and classed as European or International for fee purposes in order to be eligible for this scholarship..

Where fees are paid by an employer, private provider, government body or you are in receipt of another Durham University scholarship (e.g. Team Durham), then only the ‘highest’ value award will be paid. Failure to disclose external funding will invalidate any scholarship offering.

Applicants must be willing to participate and cooperate in marketing and communications activities (award commitments) for their Faculty/Durham University. This may include testimonials and public relations opportunities, as well as being involved in and attending Open Events, Webinars or being a class representative.

Awardees who withdraw from their Award Commitments or from the University will have all future scholarship payments cancelled.

Awardees who suspend their award commitments or academic studies will have all future discounts cancelled. Please note that only under exceptional circumstances e.g. medical reasons, and at the sole discretion of the Faculty Executive Dean, approval may be given for discounts to recommence after suspended studies continue.

  1. Apply for a course

    There is no need to formally apply for a 2026 Global Sports Award however if you are an offer holder and have not yet in touch with Team Durham (regarding high performance sport) then please send a copy of your sporting CV to Dan Armstrong daniel.armstrong@durham.ac.uk 

    Please ensure you also:

    • complete a UCAS application to study at Durham University
    • already be in receipt of a conditional / unconditional academic offer
    • accept your academic offer before the deadlines specified by UCAS.

    Only successful candidates will be notified of their scholarship.

     

    Award (tuition fee discount) decisions are entirely at the discretion of the International Office and Team Durham and all decisions are final.

     

    There is no cash alternative to be offered if a place on the programme is not taken up.
