Few universities are so successful at providing the right environment for academic potential of its undergraduate students to flourish. To help reinforce our commitment to providing the best possible access to this environment, Durham University is pleased to promote the Weldon-Le-Huray Scholarships programme. The programme provides opportunities for home students from lower-income households to:
3 scholarships are available for applicants planning to commence their undergraduate studies at Durham University, and who are able to demonstrate exceptional potential in the field of Arts and Humanities. Each scholarship is worth £4000 per academic year.
These scholarships are kindly supported by Guy and Sarah Weldon.

Household Income
Applicants must have a household income below £42,875 based on an assessment carried out by Student Finance.
Please submit your assessment letter as soon as you can to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk.
Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an exceptional level of potential in the field of Arts and Humanities.

Submit a scholarship application form for the Weldon-Le-Huray Arts and Humanities Scholarship by the 27 March 2025 ensuring you
1. have answered all the questions on the application form including the those in personal statement section:
2. have requested a reference of no more than 800 words from a suitable independent adult (e.g. a member of sixth-form staff or a tutor).
Referee Guidance:
Explain why you feel the applicant is a suitable candidate for a Weldon-le-Huray Scholarship for Arts and Humanities.
Outline relevant indicators of exceptional achievement or potential in Arts and Humanities e.g. high academic achievement (prizes, predicted grades); involvement in relevant regional/national performances, or any other relevant indicators of exceptional achievement; instances of inspiring others through involvement in Arts & Humanities; overcoming obstacles to achieve
References should be sent directly from the referee to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk. Your referee should submit the reference on letter headed paper containing the referee’s name, position, contact details and your full name.
3. provide a copy of your Student Finance England letter confirming the value of maintenance loan you are due to receive when you commence your studies to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk. If you do not have this by the scholarship deadline please provide this as soon as possibly can after the deadline.

Your performance level/potential in the field of Arts and Humanities, personal statement and reference will be considered by a panel of University colleagues with expertise in Arts and Humanities.

Scholarship applications will be considered on the basis of their ability to meet the eligibility criteria, academic potential, the personal statement and reference provided.
In addition to the information supplied on the scholarship application form, the University will gather contextual information to support the assessment of scholarship applications.
