Regulation 15 Visitor
This Regulation was adopted by the Council on 5 December 2023
1. General
a) This Regulation supports Statute 6 and should be read in conjunction with it.
b) Terms defined in the Statutes will have the same meaning in these Regulations.
c) Terms defined in Regulation [13] shall apply to all Regulations.
2. Role
a) The Visitor's power to settle disputes concerning the Statutes is limited to disputes relating to the interpretation and application of the University's Statutes.
b) The Visitor also has the power to:
- settle disputes between the members of the University in their capacities as members;
- inspect and regulate members' actions and behaviour in their capacities as members; and
- correct abuses and irregularities in the internal regulation of the University.
c) The Visitor shall have no jurisdiction in respect of:
- any dispute relating to a member of University Staff which concerns their appointment or employment or the termination of their appointment or employment(1);
- any other dispute between a member of University Staff and the University in respect of which proceedings could be brought before any court or tribunal(2) and there shall be an assumption that the Visitor does not have jurisdiction to determine the dispute(3);
- any dispute as to the application of the Statutes or the Regulations or any other internal laws of the University in relation to paragraphs 2(c)(i) or 2(c)(ii)(4);
- any complaint made in respect of an application for admission to the University as a student(5); or
- any complaint made by a person as a student or Alumni of the University, or as a student or Alumni of another institution undertaking a course of study, or programme of research, leading to the grant of one of the University's awards(6).
d) The jurisdiction of the Visitor is limited purely to internal matters of the University and they have no power over enforcing an agreement between the University and third parties.
