Regulation 9 Convocation
This Regulation was adopted by the Council on 27 February 2024
1. General
a) This Regulation supports Statute 16 and should be read in conjunction with it.
b) Terms defined in Statutes will have the same meaning in these Regulations.
c) Terms defined in Regulation [13] shall apply to all Regulations.
2. Purpose
The purpose of Convocation is as a forum for the University’s alumni / alumnae community to join with the University’s Executive to discuss the latest developments, and future plans for the University. Convocation’s role also includes:
- appointing the Chancellor of the University;
- receiving and discussing the University’s annual report.
3. Membership and Chair
a) The Convocation of the University shall consist of:
- The Chancellor;
- The Vice-Chancellor and Warden;
- The Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost;
- The Pro-Vice-Chancellors;
- all persons hereafter registered as members of convocation (3b)
b) A register of members of Convocation shall be kept by the Development and Alumni Relations Office and the following shall be entitled to be registered as members of Convocation:
- the Alumnae/Alumni;
- such other officers as shall be appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Senate.
c) The Vice-Chancellor and Warden shall chair meetings of Convocation.
4. Meetings
a) At least one meeting of Convocation shall be held each year to receive the annual report of the University.
b) The Vice-Chancellor and Warden may at any time and shall, upon the requisition in writing of not less than fifty members of Convocation stating the purpose for which the meeting is to be called, summon an extraordinary meeting of Convocation. An extraordinary meeting must meet the criteria outlined in 2. Purpose of Convocation.
c) Notice of meetings of Convocation shall be given to all members of Convocation at least 14 days in advance of the meeting date.
d) For the purpose of appointing the Chancellor, Convocation shall determine by a majority of votes of the members of Convocation present and voting.
