Dr Steve Robertson
I am the Technical Operations Manager in the Department of Engineering and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. I have a relatively multi-disciplinary academic background, with qualifications in forestry (undergraduate) and Environmental Biogeochemistry (masters and PhD). I have postdoctoral research experience in both social and physical sciences, with a particular focus on environmental engineering and its wider impact. I'm the senior technical services and facilities manager in Engineering and have the following additional roles:
- Departmental radiation protection supervisor (RPS)
- Departmental laser safety officer (LSO)
- Departmental health and safety coordinator
- Talking Science
I'm really keen to talk about science and engineering, and I've been fortunate enough to be involved with lots of great projects that aim to get scientists and engineers out of the lab, engaging with people and talking about what they do, and why. The projects have included:
- FameLab
- Researchers in Residence
- The British Science Association's Perspectives Scheme
- The Cheltenham Science Festival
- The Manchester Science Festival
- Schools visits across the North East of England
- Research Groups
- Department of Archaeology
- Material and Visual Culture
