Michael Armstrong
I’m the Technical Manager for a team of Teaching & Research Technicians that provide support to all Laboratories in the Physics Department. The support we provide is wide-ranging, from the maintenance and setup of undergraduate experiments, to the connection and maintenance of chilled water supplies for research equipment, to safety training and advice on cryogenics handling.
I’ve been in this role since 2016 having previously worked in the private sector for many years after completing a 4-year apprenticeship with a NVQ Level 3 in engineering. I also have previous experience in the education and research sector having worked at Durham in the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation (CfAI) as a Research Technician and at the University of Western Australia where I completed a BSc degree whilst working as a Mechanical Technician.
