Club to Commonwealth - Success of Team Durham Athletes

Date: July 2022We are proud to announce the success of our current students and our alumni representing their respective countries at Birmingham 2022 this year. Team England will compete against the 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth across 19 different sports; the biggest multi-sport event to be staged in the UK for a decade will showcase 11 days of competition with 286 sessions of sport. 

Rugby 7s

Born and raised in Durham, Jamie Adamson was first called into the England Sevens set-up in 2019 – playing in Lodz, Poland. Jamie later impressed England to earn himself a full-time contract two years later, after having to turn to invitational tournaments while studying at Durham University. Adamson is in the midst of preparation for his first-ever Commonwealth Games this summer.

Hockey

Current student Rebecca Daniels and alumna Izzie Howell have both been selected to represent the Welsh Squad for Birmingham 2022. Rebecca recently received her first senior Cap for Wales against South Africa; previously played for Wales U21's in Junior world Cup in South Africa earlier this year. 
 
Durham alumni Ollie Payne and Jack Waller have also both been selected to represent the England Hockey team at the Commonwealth Games this year. Both players were part of the team that won Durham University Hockey Club's BUCS Championship back in 2018. 
 
In addition, during their busy spell of playing in the World Cup quarter finals, and competing in the Euro Qualifiers next month, Fiona Crackles and Tess Howard were both selected to represent England in the Commonwealth Games squad this year.
