Biography

Dr. Guanming He is a professor at Durham University, currently serving as Director of Internationalization and Library Representative for the department and the business school. His research appears in a variety of prestigious international journals (FT 50/ABS 4-3 ranked) and has been featured in numerous mainstream media and press releases. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for a wide range of internationally reputable accounting, finance, management, and economics journals (FT 50/ABS 4-3 ranked) as well as books published by Cengage, Pearson, and SAGE. Thus far, he has performed hundreds of paper reviews for various top-tier and second-tier international journals, and received multiple reviewer awards. He presented his papers at the American Accounting Association annual meeting in 2009, 2010, 2012-2016, as well as at other major accounting conferences including AAA Financial Accounting and Reporting Section mid-year meeting. His papers also went for presentations at a host of major economics and finance conferences, including the American Economic Association annual meeting, Society of Government Economist conference, European meeting of the Econometric Society, China International Conference in Finance (CICF), SAFE Market Microstructure conference, Money, Macro, & Finance conference, Financial Risks International forum, and International Behavioral Finance conference, among many others. He earned best paper awards at the UK Academy of Information Systems 2025 annual conference, 3rd Australian Financial Market & Corporate Governance conference, 5th Research Symposium on Finance and Economics, 7th Indonesian Finance Association International Conference, and 24th and 26th International Business Research conference, attained a top paper award at the 28th annual Global Finance conference as well as a Best-in-Track paper award at the 35th annual meeting of the Academy of Finance, and was nominated as a finalist for the best overall conference paper award of European Financial Management Association. In recognition of his teaching, he was honored with excellent teaching awards in Nanyang Technological University and the University of Warwick. At Durham University, he has consistently achieved teaching evaluation scores above 90% and received faculty awards for contributions to pedagogy, research mentorship, cross-disciplinarity, internationalization, and the postgraduate research student community. He has served as Director of the Accounting PhD Program, and as the Business School representative on the university's research degree committee, from 2019 to 2023. He was President of the UK Alumni Association of Sun Yat-sen University from 2020 to 2022, having previously earned his undergraduate degree from this university in Guangzhou. 

Research areas: Guanming's research covers corporate reporting and disclosures, corporate finance, executive compensation, insider trading, financial analysts, digitalization, market anomalies, institutional investors, risk management, credit ratings, corporate innovation, corporate social responsibility, taxes, and business strategies, as well as the broader role of accounting and value-relevant information in business decision-making. He is also recognized for his expertise in the interdisciplinary research that straddles management and marketing, and is currently serving on the editorial advisory board of International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, and on the editorial board of Corporate Governance: An International Review. His related research has been covered by the Columbia Law School's Blue Sky Blog on corporations and capital markets, the Canadian HR Reporter, the European Climate Change Review, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) insights, Bloomberg media, and MarketWatch, etc.
