Welcome to Hatfield College - and congratulations on your academic success! We are looking forward to meeting you when you come to Durham to join Hatfield College in September. Present students and staff will make every effort to ensure you feel very welcome and supported from the start.
Hatfield is a thoroughly modern-minded College with roots in the traditions of the past - we were founded in 1846 to make university education accessible to more students. Above all, we are a community living and working alongside and supporting each other. Our students come from near and far, from large cities and small towns, from many different backgrounds and experiences, and are studying for degrees across the full subject spread. Our ethos is #AllOneHatfield as expressed in our recent declaration which recognises the enriching value for all of a diverse, inclusive community of equals.
Our student Common Rooms are important parts of life in the College. Do join the Junior Common Room which is for undergraduates, led by elected students. You will be contacted about this in September. The Common Rooms play an essential part in organising activities and events, in running clubs and societies, and in providing resources and facilities which support and enhance the quality of their members' experience of College life, as well as representing students' views in College and the broader university. The student Common Rooms are a very important, central feature of our College community.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of College, Hatfield Bursaries are awarded to new Home undergraduate students from lower income households, covering some costs of College life, including JCR membership. Do check out the details if you think these might apply to you.
You are welcome to contact us if you have questions via hatfield.admissions@durham.ac.uk or for urgent queries telephone +44 (0) 191 334 2610.
Lastly, beware fake Facebook pages or from other sources about Induction Week in Durham. Only follow links from documents and links in or through this website with "dur.ac.uk" in the relevant part of the address. If you are not certain that a Facebook page or web link is genuine, do contact us.
I very much look forward to welcoming you to Hatfield in September.

Congratulations on getting into Durham! I’m Joseph, Hatfield’s newly elected Senior Man, which is the equivalent to JCR President, and have just completed a degree in English. I’m glad to welcome you to Hatfield and I hope you’re excited to begin your university experience. Being a member of the Hatfield JCR will enable you to take more out of university life such as playing sports, attending events, joining committees, and having your say in how Hatfield is run. See you all soon!

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.
