The Junior Common Room (JCR) is the hub of undergraduate student life in the College and provides many opportunities and events to enrich your student experience at Durham. Paying the JCR levy transforms the College from being a place to live to being a vibrant community full of opportunity. The levy supports students to participate in a wide range of Hatfield sport, music, drama, volunteering, arts and much more. Membership includes membership of the College gyms and also offers subsidies on formal meals, and tickets to Hatfield JCR-run events from Hatfield Day to our three JCR Balls throughout the year. This is a one-off payment for the duration of your undergraduate degree course. If you join the JCR prices for some JCR events and activities including JCR Clubs and Societies will be lower. All students whether they are JCR members or not have full access to all College facilities and College-led activities. However, most Hatfield undergraduates are members of the JCR.

JCR Membership (if you are eligible for a PART or FULL Hatfield Bursary)

The Hatfield Trust provides bursaries which covers the JCR Membership Subscription for students from lower-income households. ALL students are asked to select the appropriate subscription (either £220 or £0) according to whether they believe they are eligible for a bursary or not. When the University reviews notifications of household incomes from Student Finance England or equivalent, the College will confirm eligibility for a bursary. Corrective payments and refunds become due then.

Induction Week wristband JCR Link Non-JCR Link	£25 (JCR levy payers) £30 (JCR non levy payers)	Get your Freshers' Week wristband here! Hatfield Freps (Freshers’ reps) have organised a varied programme of optional events to welcome new students to the College and to Durham in addition to College-led activities which are compulsory for all students. The cost of the wristband helps contribute to the cost of the Frep-organised events, which are subsidised by the JCR for all levy paying students. If you purchase a wristband you will be able to participate in all of the JCR-organised activities along with all of our other freshers. Freshers' Week events include our annual neon party and white t-shirt party, our spectacular Freshers' Ball, your first Formal dinner, gameshow night, movie events, arts and crafts and so much more! The cost of the wristband also includes some exclusive stash, including a Hatfield Freshers' 2024 t-shirt!

Academic Gowns	£60	Academic gowns are needed for a range of events. All students are expected to wear gowns for both University and College Matriculation ceremonies and for the College photograph at the start of the year, for formal dinners in College which happen most weeks during the three terms, and for some other College events.

Gym Membership	£45	The College has two gyms – a weights room and a cardiovascular room - open to gym members only, who pay an annual subscription. In addition to becoming a member you will need to complete an induction prior to using the gyms.

Hatfield Association	£25	The Hatfield Association is a community of thousands of Hatfielders, past and present, whose job it is to support the connection and development of all members, both during their time in College and beyond graduation. One of the key benefits of the Association that you’ll enjoy as an undergraduate is the opportunity to connect with Hatfield alumni working in various fields via various events and initiatives, allowing you to seek career advice and make contacts. A one-off payment of £25 gives you lifetime membership of the Hatfield Association, ensuring you are connected from your very first day until well after graduation. As members of the Association say, ‘Once a Hatfielder, always a Hatfielder.’

Hatfield Trust Parent & Family Fund Donation	£20	Established in 1987, the Hatfield Trust exists to support Hatfield students in a variety of ways throughout their time at Hatfield. Relying on the generosity of contributions from Hatfield alumni and other supporters, the Trust works hard to enhance the Hatfield student experience by providing financial assistance in the form of awards, grants, scholarships and bursaries. The Trust supports for following areas of College life: Student Development - funding student activities such as internships, engagement in events, volunteering and individual training and development projects. Development of College Facilities and Grounds - assisting students in a wide range of extracurricular activities, and providing additional spaces and equipment for such activities. Creating an Inclusive Community - enabling students from all backgrounds to engage in core Hatfield experiences as well as making a Hardship Fund available to support students to overcome a difficult period, or when their circumstances change unexpectedly. By supporting the Hatfield Trust via the Parent and Family Fund, you will be automatically inducted into the 1846 Club, our community of Hatfield supporters with exclusive access to College life
Linen Pack: Single Three-Quarter Double	£35 (single) £52 (three quarter) £53 (double)	If you are living in College accommodation, you may purchase a bed linen pack. The pack comprises a duvet, duvet cover, pillow, pillow case and a sheet.

Payment of Optional College Levies

If you are eligible for a Full Hatfield Bursary the cost of the optional levies indicated above will be covered by the Hatfield Trust on your behalf.

Mature Undergraduates

Mature undergraduate students (that is, those aged 25 or more at the start of their studies) may join the Middle Common Room (MCR) if they wish, subject to paying the MCR Common Room fee. Undergraduates who join the MCR will not be eligible to apply for MCR Postgraduate Research Awards. To apply to join the MCR, please email the MCR Treasurer.

Financial Guidance

Coming to University requires careful financial planning. College bills are payable termly. There are various sources of advice and funding available for students experiencing financial hardship. The Assistant Master has responsibility for advising students about these sources and supporting applicants for financial assistance.

Hatfield Bursaries

Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of Hatfield College, the Hatfield Trust funds Hatfield Bursaries to support new students from lower-income households to meet some of the core costs of college life.

Hatfield Junior Common Room

Hatfield JCR (Junior Common Room) is a student led charitable organisation operating within Hatfield College to provide community and opportunities for undergraduate students.
