Future Refurbishment and Redevelopment of Old Hild Bede
A Mightier Hild Bede
Hild Bede has historically been located on an amazing site which is notable for some historic and many older buildings within the University estate. We are currently working on exciting plans to invest in the refurbishment and redevelopment of the College so that it continues to offer the best possible experience for staff, students, the wider College community and other users.
The Rushford Court Years
We’re really pleased to say that while this work takes place, Hild Bede will be coming home to Rushford Court. This purpose-built student accommodation, within walking distance of the city centre, provides students with en-suite rooms on a self catered basis. We have a new Caedmon Building housing the Vern, Study Space, Common Room, SRC Office and meting room, a gym and some beautiful outdoor spaces. Our College Chapel and Choir are based at St Cuthbert's Church, we use amenities at Durham Johnston School and the Boat House is on the river Wear. We will continue to offer some additional accommodation in the city as student numbers demands. All our students, resident or non-resident, have access to these spaces and placed across the hildbede-o-sphere.
Refurbishment and redevelopment
Our project team, which includes representation from The College of St Hild and St Bede, has been actively involved in a market engagement exercise to progress with the refurbishment and redevelopment of Hild Bede and the Leazes Road site.
