College Mentors
The College mentor body is a diverse group of people, from a variety of backgrounds, ages and experiences, who have close connections with the College and are recruited from both within and outside of the University. Mentors do not have a direct input into teaching at the College level but offer friendship, signposting and personal development guidance to students.
First Year students are allocated to specific mentor groups of 12, 24 or 36 members, from across all years. In order to get to know their mentees, and build up the necessary bond of trust, Mentors arrange events such as dinner parties, informal social gatherings, theatre trips, quiz nights etc.
Mentors are an active part of the College community and are frequently seen at Formal Meals, College Balls, sporting events, drama productions etc – or just dropping into the bar for a drink!
Mentor support is central to the personal development of students, allowing them to take a reflective view of their time in Durham.
