On 8 July, we welcomed a delegation from the Palace Museum Beijing, led by Senior Deputy Director Mr LOU Wei, to Durham.
The delegation met with our Prof Vice-Chancellor (Global) Professor Claire O’Malley and senior colleagues from faculties and departments at the Oriental Museum to renew our seven-year partnership for a further five years.
Our partnership with Palace Museum is a flagship partnership in China. In 2016, Durham and the Palace Museum signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), bringing together these two world-renowned centres of research and cultural excellence for the first time.
The partnership has developed from research being undertaken between the University’s Department of Archaeology and experts from the Palace Museum in Beijing, and has since witnessed engagement between various departments and services from the two sides.
The renewal of the MoU signifies both partners’ continuing commitment to promoting joint research, conservation, exhibitions, cultural heritage protection; and advancing studies of archaeology and ancient culture.
Durham University is a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of extraordinary people, a unique and historic setting – Durham is a university like no other. We work in partnership with research institutions around the world, to share and grow global knowledge.
