Durham University’s Arts and Humanities subjects have performed strongly in the latest Unifresher subject rankings, helping to secure Durham’s position as the UK’s leading Russell Group university in the Unifresher 2027 Rankings.
Durham’s overall performance in the Unifresher 2027 Rankings included 10 subject wins and 34 top-five finishes, making it the University’s strongest showing in a national ranking focused on student experience across a broad range of subjects. Within that wider success, arts and humanities subjects delivered an impressive set of results, with Music and Classics ranked first in the UK, English Literature and Philosophy ranked second, and History and Theology and Religious Studies placed in the top three.
Among the standout results, Music and Classics were both ranked first in the UK, underlining the strength of Durham’s arts and humanities offer. Durham also achieved excellent results in English Literature and Philosophy, where it was ranked second in the UK, while History and Theology and Religious Studies were both placed third, with Theology and Religious Studies also awarded Bronze.
Unifresher says its rankings are designed around the factors that matter most to students, combining academic measures with wider indicators such as teaching quality, student satisfaction, academic support, graduate earnings, safety, cost of living, social life, and sustainability.
