The Facility provides our researchers with access to an extensive range of ancillary instruments essential for the successful generation of their own libraries during the Next Generation Sequencing workflow.
Our NGS provision is additionally supported by an Illumina MiSeq System.
More detailed information about each of the instruments, including all specifications and applications, can be found on the individual manufacturers' websites.
The Biobase BK-HS96 allows for the automatic, high throughput extraction and purification of nucleic acids, utilising magnetic bead technology in conjunction with the appropriate sample specific nucleic acid extraction kits.
The Covaris M220 is a compact, easy to use system enabling DNA shearing precisely and reliably. It allows for user-selectable fragment lengths between 150bp to 5kb with a high sample recovery.
The Pippin Prep is an automated, preparative gel electrophoresis system. The software allows the user to enter their chosen parameters to define the DNA fragment size ranges or DNA bands to be targeted. Sample collection from 100bp to 1.5kb is available.
The TapeStation is a tape based platform for simpler, faster and more reliable electrophoresis. The system automates RNA, DNA and protein sample loading, separation and imaging. Designed to work with low sample volumes, it is able to analyse size, quantity and integrity of samples.
Our NGS provision is supported by an Illumina MiSeq, with data output from 1M to 25M unique reads, allowing a broad range of applications.
Selected reagent cartridges are available which define the yield and configuration of each run, with read lengths from 50bp to 300bp. All available kit types can be supplied and run appropriate to a project's experimental requirements.
