My time at Durham gave me so much more than a degree. Academically, I built a strong foundation of legal knowledge and analytical skills that were essential in applications, interviews, and assessment centres. Beyond the classroom, Durham offered excellent access to leading law firms through presentations, workshops, and networking events with trainees and partners.

The societies I joined played a huge role in shaping my journey. The Durham Law Society and Durham University Women in Law (DUWIL) not only developed my commercial awareness but also gave me the confidence to engage with firms. Serving as President of DUWIL was especially transformative — it gave me leadership experience, expanded my professional network, and provided first-hand insight into how students and firms connect.

The employability support at Durham also played a crucial role. The Law School facilitated access to firm-led events and workshops, which gave me a much clearer understanding of what recruiters were looking for and created a strong framework to draw on during my training contract applications. This was complemented by the Careers Service, whose CV checks and mock interviews helped me refine my approach and present myself with confidence.

I am now set to begin a Training Contract with Taylor Wessing.

My advice is to take advantage of all the opportunities that Durham has to offer. Academic study is an essential prerequisite to success, but it is the combination with Durham societies, networking opportunities, and leadership roles that will give you the strongest foundations for successful career planning.
