My Durham degree offered me several advantages. In particular, it allowed me to build strong academic foundations through analysing complex problems and approaching unfamiliar issues in a structured way. Moreover, outside the classroom, there were many opportunities to build my ‘people skills’ (confidence, clear communication etc.). I believe that this combination of academics and extra-curricular activities allowed me to become a well-rounded individual which definitely helped when I was applying for graduate roles!

I also found certain Durham support services very useful. I was able to attend several career sessions and speak to graduates who had already gone through the recruitment process. These graduates (some being fellow Durham alumni) were able to share their experiences and provide practical advice for my applications, which I was extremely grateful for.

I am excited to join A&O Shearman (Singapore) as a trainee solicitor in 2027.

Durham has plenty of opportunities to offer, and while it is important to work hard and build your CV for future career opportunities, I would encourage you not to lose sight of the wider university experience (for me, it was travelling and spending time with my friends). Keep an open mind, try new things and make the most of the opportunities around you. The experiences you gain outside of your studies not only shape you as a person, but often come through in the ways you approach new challenges and opportunities. Most importantly, they are often the parts of university life that you will remember and treasure the most!
