Professor Bohlander’s blogpost in Global Policy Journal receives wide media attention.
Professor Bohlander’s blogpost “Should we shoot down UFOs?”, which was published by the Global Policy Journal on 30 September 2026, has received broad media attention. On the same day, one of the major German blogs in the field, Grenzwissenschaft, published an authorised German translation of the Global Policy blogpost. On 2 October 2026, Professor Bohlander’s research was mentioned extensively on German BILD TV (from minute 5:38). BILD is Germany’s largest tabloid newspaper. On 4 October 2026, BILD Online also published an article about the Global Policy blogpost, which was accessed by several tens of thousands of readers on the first day alone. On the same day, the International Business Times and the Daily Star reported on the blogpost as well. The blogpost was also mentioned in several sub-reddits on UFO issues on Reddit, and also on other social media from the wider UAP community.
Professor Michael Bohlander holds the Chair in Global Law and SETI Policy at Durham Law School. He has published widely on SETI and UAP issues, in particular on the impact on human law and about the ethics of contact with non-human intelligence. In 2025, he led a submission of over 20 academics from around the world to the House of Lords Select Committee on UK Engagement with Space. He is also the initiator of the Declaration on SETI and UAP research, adopted at a symposium on 24 April 2025 at Durham Law School, endorsed globally by over 460 people and translated into 20 languages.
