Translation: above and beyond wor(l)ds

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Centre for Foreign Language Study will be hosting their second Dynamics of Languages in Society student conference on the 5th March 2022 in conjunction with Essex, Newcastle and York Universities.  The conference will be on the theme of Translation: above and beyond wor(l)ds.

The conference is open to UG and MA specialist and non-specialist language learners with at least an A2 level in a language. Contributions can take the former of papers, round-table discussions, posters, etc and can be done in English or in the target language. The conference will take place online to ensure equal access from all four universities. All languages are welcome. Students are invited to formulate a research question comprising but not restricted to one of the following subthemes:

  • How worldviews translate or shift across different cultures.

Each group or participant will have the opportunity to submit a grant proposal of up to £200 to support their research.  Should participants be applying for a grant, 300 further words should be allocated to explaining the rationale for the grant alongside a breakdown of how the resources will be spent.
