We understand that you may want to come with a family member or someone close. That’s great, and they will be welcome too, but if the sessions get very full we may have to ask them to wait outside for a little while, to make sure we have space for offer-holders.
Durham city centre is only two miles from the A1(M). Leave the motorway at Junction 62, and take the A690 Durham-Sunderland road, following signs to Durham City Centre. A variety of car parks are available, and some on-street parking. There is also a park and ride service.
Durham is 264 miles from London, 187 miles from Birmingham, 125 miles from Edinburgh and 67 miles from York.
A number of train operators offer direct and regular routes to Durham Railway Station, including London and Edinburgh. Durham is around 3 hours from London, just over 3 hours from Birmingham, 2½ hours from Manchester, 1½ hours from Edinburgh and 45 minutes from York. Look out for the beautiful view from the railway viaduct across to the cathedral as you enter the city!
You can walk to the city centre from the station in around 10 minutes.
Use our online map to help you find your way around the city, or download our app, and take a self-guided tour!
A lot of our more modern buildings (including Elvet Riverside, where the talks will take place) are now accessible, but Durham is an old city with cobbled streets and steep hills, and getting around isn't always straightforward. More information is available at AccessAble, and please do contact us with any queries. We'd be pleased to do what we can to help make the day accessible for everyone.
