Another Timbre release recording of Dr James Weeks's media vita
Dr James Weeks’ chamber work media vita (2024) has been released on the Another Timbre label, performed by leading British experimental music ensemble Apartment House.
The four movements of media vita, scored for clarinet, bass clarinet, viola, cello, piano and sine tones, act as interludes between Weeks’ own instrumental arrangements of music by the 16th-century Franco-Flemish composer Nicolas Gombert.
The recording has been described as “one of the least expected and most beautiful records we are likely to hear this year” by critic Clive Bell, and was chosen as one of January 2025’s Best Contemporary Classical releases by Peter Margasak on Bandcamp Daily: “these old and new collisions make the material sound utterly vital and fresh for 2025 ears.”
