As Durham University’s professional concert series, MUSICON’s aim is to bring top-class musical performance from across the world to Durham, engaging, delighting and inspiring audiences from both the university and city of Durham and beyond.

Rooted in the university’s world-leading Music Department, MUSICON draws on the special expertise and enthusiasms of its staff to create programmes which are diverse, inclusive and at the cutting-edge of musical research and knowledge, ranging from Western classical, early and contemporary music to the musical traditions of India, the Far East and elsewhere: a unique cultural resource in the North East.

An introduction from our Chair

Welcome to our 58th season of MUSICON concerts! We’re proud to bring another year of stunning music to Durham, from baroque and Romantic classics to world premieres, jazz and traditional Indian music. No other concert series in the North East offers such a variety of world-class music-making at such affordable prices.

This season we collaborate with Durham Jazz Festival for the first time and welcome back GemArts for the popular Indian Spring Colours, and once again the heart of our series is provided by our collaboration with Royal Northern Sinfonia. February brings a feast of vocal music ancient and modern, and our virtuoso solo recitals include piano, guitars of all sorts, Hardanger cello and microtonal flutes. There’s something for everyone in our season this year and look forward to welcoming you soon!
