This year we’re celebrating 100 years of Science at Durham University! The Dawson Building, on the Lower Mountjoy site, first opened its doors in 1924 as the home of the new Department of Science, consisting of Botany, Chemistry, Geology and Physics.
To celebrate a century of incredible research, teaching and engagement, we will be holding a series of events throughout the year and we’d love you to be part of it as we deliver DU Science 100. We'll also be sharing stories from colleagues, alumni, partners, and students.
Keep an eye out throughout the year as we plan a range of events for our local communities and get involved with our celebrations.
Durham University Schools’ Science Festival inspires Year 9 and 10 students with hands-on activities across various scientific fields. Hosted by experts, the festival has been engaging thousands of students since 1995. This year, 600 pupils attended.
Around 150 pupils from a County Durham school weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty when they visited our Botanic Garden to learn about soil health.
