Registration for Credit-bearing Modules

The table below shows the modules we are offering for the 2026-27 academic year.

Specified entry qualifications are indicative: students do not necessarily require formal qualifications to study a language module as long as they can evidence they are operating at the relevant CEFR level.

Please note that the current module proforma links are this year’s. The 2026-27 module proforma will be updated on our website once the faculty handbook has been released.

* Teaching for Stage 6 will be delivered in combined classes with Language 4 (French Language 4, German Language 4, Spanish Language 4)

** The new CFLS1G41+ and CFLS1J41+ modules will deliver the Stage 4 and Stage 5 content in German (Stage 4 and Stage 5) and Japanese (Stage 4 and Stage 5) through three hours of weekly contact time.

Registration for 26-27 modules is now open. Please note that registration is a two part process. After ensuring that your registration is permittable within the restrictions for credit-bearing modules, you will need to:

1. Complete a Language Declaration form.

2. Submit your choice of module on Banner Self-Service.

Language Declarations forms will be reviewed and registrations processed over the summer.

Timetable clashes and module registration

If a timetable clash is flagged when you register for a CFLS module, this may sometimes be due to in-class exams needing to be scheduled. In some cases, this means that the clash affects only a specific week and may not necessarily prevent you from taking the module.

If you encounter a clash, it is worth contacting the CFLS Directors (Anna Johnston and Laura Lewis) and mlac.taughtprogrammes@durham.ac.uk to check whether it may still be possible for you to join the module.
