Forrest Research Exchange Fellow at Trevelyan College, October-November 2026
Nicholas Duddy is a Forrest Postdoctoral Fellow in English and Literary Studies at the University of Western Australia. His research interests include twentieth- and twenty-first-century literature, creative writing and dramaturgy, and the medical and environmental humanities. His research on modern theatre appears or is forthcoming in Arthur Miller in Context (CUP, 2027), the Arthur Miller Journal, Comparative Drama, and elsewhere. He completed his doctorate in English at the University of Oxford in 2025.
His book project, Suicide and the Modern Stage, explores how postwar playwrights experimented with dramatic form to examine the issue of suicide. In this study, he argues that dramaturgical innovations in the second half of the twentieth century offered new modes of engagement with medical, philosophical, and experiential questions of suicidal behaviour, positioning the theatre as a vital cultural space for advancing our understanding of this complex human phenomenon.
Dr Duddy is part of an exchange program with the Forrest Research Foundation. While at Durham, he will connect with interdisciplinary researchers from the Institute for Medical Humanities and across the university working at the intersection of the arts, health, and human wellbeing.
