Join IDAS

Be part of Durham's data science community

The Institute for Data Science (IDAS) brings together researchers, academics, professional services colleagues, students and external partners interested in the opportunities and challenges created by data science and artificial intelligence.

Whether you are developing new methods, applying data science to your research, working with large-scale datasets, exploring AI, or interested in the responsible use of data, we would love you to be part of the IDAS community.

Who can join?

Membership of the IDAS community is open to all Durham University staff and postgraduate researchers with an interest in data science, AI and related areas.

You do not need to be a data scientist or work in a computing-related discipline. IDAS is intentionally interdisciplinary, bringing together expertise from across the University.

What does membership offer?

As part of the IDAS community, you can:

  • Connect with researchers and colleagues working with data and AI across Durham

  • Find opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Hear about research funding and collaborative funding calls

  • Participate in IDAS seminars, workshops and events

  • Share your research, expertise and ideas with the wider community

  • Discover data science, AI and research computing expertise across the University

  • Contribute to discussions about the responsible and impactful use of data and AI

  • Become involved in IDAS initiatives and activities

Join our IDAS Microsoft Teams community

Our day-to-day community activity takes place through an IDAS Microsoft Teams group, which is available to Durham University staff.

The Teams group is where we share:

  • IDAS announcements and news

  • Events and seminar information

  • Funding and collaboration opportunities

  • Research and training opportunities

  • Calls for participation and engagement

Interested in working with IDAS?

You don't have to be a formal member to engage with IDAS.
