This seminar will provide an overview of the Clean Maritime Research Hub review report of the role of energy efficiency measures for short-term greenhouse gas emission reduction in the maritime sector, for which Richard was the lead author. The seminar will focus on technical and operational aspects of maritime decarbonisation. It will include the key energy efficiency technologies identified in the review, outlining their energy saving potential, technology maturity, and the current state of deployment. It should be noted that energy efficiency measures are a critical pathway for reducing emissions in the near term while more advanced decarbonisation technologies continue to mature, improving efficiency also can offset increased costs associated with future fuels.
Richard is a mechanical engineer in the Department of Engineering at Durham University. He is currently a research fellow for the Clean Maritime Research Hub, and he has a proven track record of delivered major research projects within the energy sector, using a range of computational, analytical, and experimental techniques. His innovative energy projects have spanned maritime decarbonisation, agricultural methane abatement, industrial decarbonisation, free piston engines, thermos-fluids of electrical machines, wind turbine asset management, aerospace and steam/gas turbomachinery.
