Malamud, Director of Durham University’s Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), for a two-day visit from 27–28 November 2025. The meetings offered an important opportunity to explore avenues for deeper academic and research cooperation between the two institutions.

[10/25] Durham University’s Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) announces the appointment of internationally renowned landslide expert Dr Fausto Guzzetti as Professor of Hazard and Risk.

[10/25] Explorer Mark Evans MBE visited Durham University on 21 October to launch his upcoming research and education expedition, Oman-3165. The IHRR is collaborating with Mark to capture 360° imagery of Oman’s coastal and marine environments and to develop virtual reality teaching materials in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society.

[07/25] Dr Ellen Robson (PDRA, IHRR) and Dr Peter McGowran (Research Associate, King’s College London) led the organisation of an interdisciplinary workshop that explored the intersections between roads, development and disaster resilience with 50 practitioners, policymakers, and physical and social scientists – a synthesis of the workshop discussions has now been published as a journal article in IJDRR.

[07/25] Dr Ashutosh Kumar (IHRR Visiting Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Mandi) visited the IHRR to collaborate with Dr Ellen Robson (IHRR PDRA) for their project on 'Integrating Disaster Preparedness into the Transportation Engineering curriculum for the Indian Himalayas’.
