With Nikitas Gidopoulos and the support of the Institute of Advanced Studies, Robin Hendry is organising a one-day workshop ‘Exploring the Quantum-Classical Boundary', addressing the following topics:

1. Quantum effects at different scales and across different sciences

  •     What (in qualitative terms) are the quantum behaviours?
  •     What (in qualitative terms) is classical behaviour?
  •     What (if anything) is semi-classical behaviour?
  •     How does classical behaviour emerge from quantum dynamics?

2. Translating between mathematical and qualitative languages

3. The mathematical structure of quantum mechanics and what (practically) turns up in its applications (e.g. in what way does QM demand infinite-dimensional configuration spaces?)

4. Interpreting the mathematics

5. The impact of QM (applications, interpretation and public understanding) in the twentieth century.

Speakers at the event will include: Francesca Bellazzi, Nikitas Gidopolous, Robin Hendry, Joe Martin, Patrick McGivern, Margarita Staykova and Sergey Tyulenev.

For catering purposes, please register your attendance and dietary requirements on this MS form by 10 July:
