- Advance and promote political theory research, scholarship and engagement.
- Provide a collegial environment of mutual advice and support for staff and students working on political philosophy and the history of political thought.
- Help members develop and improve their research and scholarship.
- Expose the membership and broader academic community to new and interesting ideas.
- Promote members’ work within and beyond academia.
- Assist members in funding capture.
- Assist political theory staff in attracting and nurturing top-quality research students, securing funding for those students, supporting their doctoral research, and helping them to succeed in academia and beyond.
- Continue to engage with historically marginalised perspectives, alternative framings of research problems, and innovative methodologies, along with voices critical of more dominant framings, problems, and methodologies.
- Ensure research activities are accessible to everyone including those with caring responsibilities.
- Contribute to the local community through research, scholarship and engagement activities.
- Facilitate connections with other academic units within and across disciplines as well as relevant external partners through collaborative research events and ongoing relationships.
- Enhance the local, regional, national, and international research community.
- Support research-led teaching and pedagogical research.
