  1. Advance and promote political theory research, scholarship and engagement.
  2. Provide a collegial environment of mutual advice and support for staff and students working on political philosophy and the history of political thought.
  3. Help members develop and improve their research and scholarship.
  4. Expose the membership and broader academic community to new and interesting ideas.
  5. Promote members’ work within and beyond academia.
  6. Assist members in funding capture.
  7. Assist political theory staff in attracting and nurturing top-quality research students, securing funding for those students, supporting their doctoral research, and helping them to succeed in academia and beyond.
  8. Continue to engage with historically marginalised perspectives, alternative framings of research problems, and innovative methodologies, along with voices critical of more dominant framings, problems, and methodologies.
  9. Ensure research activities are accessible to everyone including those with caring responsibilities.
  10. Contribute to the local community through research, scholarship and engagement activities.
  11. Facilitate connections with other academic units within and across disciplines as well as relevant external partners through collaborative research events and ongoing relationships.
  12. Enhance the local, regional, national, and international research community.
  13. Support research-led teaching and pedagogical research.
