Biography

I am a PhD student in the Department of English Studies researching the animal poetry of Ted Hughes.

Before starting at Durham, I completed the MA English: Issues in Modern Literature and Culture course at University College London (UCL), where my dissertation was on ecological apocalypse and apocalyptic landscapes in the poetry of T. S. Eliot. Before this, I completed my BA in English Literature at UCL with my undergraduate research essay focusing on representations of animals in Ted Hughes’s poetry and poetics.

As in my past work, my research often returns to ideas of ecology and animality in modernist and twentieth-century literature – particularly where these intersect with issues of myth, eschatology and katabasis. Some of my recent research has focused on the blue humanities and the literary implications of ecological Object-Oriented Ontology, and I continue to be drawn to presentations and formal processes of irrationality and degradation in modernist narratives.

I would welcome any enquiries about my areas of research.
