Biography

Alice Chapman is a PhD student in quantum engineering at Durham University, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Physics and a Master’s in Data Science. Her research focuses on quantum decoherence in spin defects in silicon carbide, including the hyperfine interactions that limit coherence in solid-state quantum networks. Her Master’s thesis built a noise-aware digital twin of the V2 silicon-vacancy magnetometer in 4H-SiC and applied machine learning to detect, localise and denoise magnetic resonance signals. She teaches first-year Electrical Machines laboratories in Durham’s Department of Engineering, serves as MCR Treasurer at St Chad’s College, and holds a Community Scholarship.
