Biography
I am a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Durham University. My project FunMo investigates functionality at the molecular scale and how molecular functions can inform the border between life and non-life and biological and medical sciences, in particular in respect to nutrition. As part of my current research activities, I am also a Fellow of the Institue of Medical Humanities and CPEMPH. My first monograph “The Philosophy of Biochemistry: Biochemical kinds and their properties” is currently under review for Cambridge University Press.
I am also collaborating as a Researcher in the ERC funded project AssemblingLife at the University of Oslo, where I was a postdoctoral researcher (2024-2025). I hold a Honorary Research Fellowship at the Department of Science & Technology at UCL (London), working with Professor Emma Tobin on biochemical classification and functionality in the light of new technologies.
Previously, I was a teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham, where I taught the MA modules in Metaphysics, Philosophy of Language and Epistemology and supervised UG Dissertations (2023-2024).
I got my PhD in Philosophy with the thesis "Biochemical kinds and the Unity of Science" at the University of Bristol, as part of the ERC funded MetaScience Project (Grant agreement 771509) under the supervision of Professor Tuomas Tahko and Professor Samir Okasha (2019-2023).
