Ma’in Khleef Alkhawaldeh is a doctoral researcher at Durham Law School. His doctoral research focuses on the legal regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), with particular emphasis on the European Union AI Act and the development of effective regulatory frameworks governing the design, deployment, and use of AI systems.

He holds an LL.M with Distinction from Lancaster University, which he completed in 2025. His master’s dissertation developed a framework for allocating liability for harm arising from the use of AI systems and was highly commended by the examiners. He previously obtained an LL.B with First Class Honours from the University of Jordan in 2024, graduating among the highest-ranking students in his cohort. His undergraduate dissertation received the highest available grade of 4.0 out of 4.0 and was approved without revisions. Before beginning his university studies, he achieved 98.9% in Jordan’s General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi), Literary Stream.

His broader research interests include AI liability, technology regulation, digital governance, and the interaction between emerging technologies and law. He is the author of a book examining the legal implications of AI, with particular attention to liability arising from the development and deployment of AI systems. His scholarly work also includes an article forthcoming in the Journal of Intellectual Property, Information Technology and E-Commerce Law (JIPITEC), a double-blind peer-reviewed journal indexed in Scopus.

Alongside his doctoral research, Ma’in contributes to the academic community at Durham Law School as a member of the Board of Studies, a role he has held since 2026. He is also a member of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) and Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).

His academic experience also includes teaching AI at Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Jordan in 2026. In addition, he has gained professional legal experience at Ali Sharif Zu’bi Advocates & Legal Consultants, a prominent Jordanian law firm recognised by Chambers Global, The Legal 500, and IFLR1000 for its corporate and commercial practice.
