Ma’in Khleef Alkhawaldeh is a doctoral researcher at Durham Law School. His doctoral research examines the legal regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, with particular emphasis on the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act  and the development of effective regulatory frameworks governing the design, deployment, and use of AI.

He holds an LLM with Distinction from Lancaster University, United Kingdom (2025). His master’s dissertation developed a novel framework for allocating liability for harm arising from the use of AI systems and was highly commended by the examiners. He also holds an LLB with First Class Honours from the University of Jordan (2024), where he graduated among the highest-ranking students in his cohort. His undergraduate dissertation was awarded the highest available grade of 4.0 out of 4.0 and was approved without revisions. He also achieved 98.9% in Jordan’s General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi), Literary Stream.

Ma’in is the author of a book examining the legal implications of AI, with particular emphasis on liability arising from the development and deployment of AI systems. His scholarly work also includes an article forthcoming in the Journal of Intellectual Property, Information Technology and E-Commerce Law (JIPITEC), a Scopus-indexed, double-blind peer-reviewed journal.

His academic experience includes teaching AI at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Jordan, in 2026. 

Alongside his academic work, Ma’in has gained professional legal experience at Ali Sharif Zu’bi Advocates & Legal Consultants, a leading Jordanian law firm ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global and Tier 1 by The Legal 500 and IFLR1000 in key corporate and commercial practice areas.

His research interests include AI regulation, privacy and data protection law, and commercial law.
