Biography
I'm a Teaching Fellow in Political Theory at Durham University. Previously, I spent a year as an Associate Lecturer in the Philosophy Department at UCL. Before that, I spent three years at Oxford as the Departmental Lecturer in Feminism for the Philosophy Department, as well as a Philosophy Tutor at Exeter College, Oxford.I am interested in expression, broadly construed. I work on debates around free speech, the value of emotional expression, and consent.
Research
My research relates to the good and bad of expression. Many of my publications discuss the value of free speech and under what conditions this value is secured. As of late, I've become particularly interested in how expression works, for better or worse, in the real world, and the role expression plays in oppression. I am currently developing work on the connection between pornography and sexual choking without consent, as well as the way racism and sexism make it harder for people to express legitimate anger in response to injustice.
