From Consett to Astrophysics: How Scholarship Support Opened Doors

When Ryan arrived at Durham to study Physics and Astronomy, he brought with him an ambition he had held since childhood: to understand the universe and pursue a career in scientific research.

Growing up in Consett and attending a state school, Ryan often found himself creating opportunities rather than being given them. He founded a Physics Club for younger students and worked as a tutor to save for university. Yet despite his determination, the financial realities of higher education were a constant concern.

Today, Ryan has secured a fully funded PhD in Astrophysics and is preparing to begin the next stage of his academic journey.
