Why did you choose to study at Durham?:

I chose to study at Durham for the excellent academic reputation and the collegiate structure. I knew I would find like minded individuals who shared a drive for learning and extra-curricular passions.

What was it like to be a student at Durham? Tell us about college life, the city, your course and any sports or societies you were involved in.:

I had a wonderful time as a student at Durham, I was heavily involved in my college’s JCR during which time I was Vice-President, Editor of our in house journal, head Frep, and a Student Union representative. I also planned many balls for both my college and the classics society. Every day was filled with great teaching and evening was filled with great socialis.

What are your fondest memories of your time here?:

My favourite memory was organising my college’s 65th annual ball. I made wonderful friends on the committee, was challenged by the intricacies of event planning and felt immense joy to provide such an enjoyable evening for everyone in my college.

What have you been up to since you left Durham?:

Since leaving Durham, I took a few months to travel SE Asia and Sri Lanka where I volunteered at a pre-school. I was then fortunate enough to receive an offer to work as a Finance Manager for P&G, a Fortune 100 company, which included an unforeseen yet remarkable relocation to Stockholm, Sweden! I now manage the finances for Baby, Fem and Beauty care for the four Nordic countries. I enjoy my work and the experiences of a new country.

How has Durham inspired you to get where you are today? Tell us about any career highlights and achievements.*:

Durham imbued me with the confidence, determination and attainment to flourish in the professional world. Not to mention, the gravitas of having such a well-regarded institution on my CV which helped to land me my career in the first place. Durham broadened my perspective as to what opportunities were available and supplied me with lifelong friends to support me as I pursued my goals. The most transferable skill however would be the ball planning, which allowed me to organise and serve as toast master at my company’s annual party!

What would be your top piece of advice for anyone considering studying at Durham?:

Ensure you make the very most of your time here at Durham by committing yourself to your work, but also committees and societies. Make sure to pursue opportunities both inside and outside of college life to receive the most of what Durham has to offer. Let college life and involvement provide your base, but make sure to expand your social circle and experiences with university wide opportunities.

Why is staying connected to your alumni community important to you? Tell us about anything you have gained from your alumni engagement with Durham.:

I am fortunate to work at a company where Durham Alumni are highly respected and favoured. I now work alongside fellow Durham graduates every week, and have created my own little alumni community at work.
