 Why did you choose to study at Durham?:

I chose to study at Durham for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I felt that the Classics course at Durham was the right fit for me as the wide selection of modules on offer meant that I could tailor my path on the course to my own interests. I was keen to advance my language studies - particularly in Greek - whilst also immersing myself in the literature and history of the Greco-Roman world. I was also hoping to join some of the university's many clubs and societies and I felt that the collegiate system at Durham would help me meet like-minded people outside of my degree.

What was it like to be a student at Durham? Tell us about college life, the city, your course and any sports or societies you were involved in.:

During my time at Durham, I was able to balance my academic studies with being involved in extra-curricular activities and wider student life. My course offered an extensive choice of content to study and I felt supported by the department throughout my studies. My college was St Chad's - the smallest and one of the oldest colleges at the university - and I lived in college accommodation opposite Durham Cathedral in my first year. I frequently attended college formals during the week as well as Chad's events throughout the year and I made friends at the college who continue to be a big part of my life now. I was involved in various clubs and societies throughout my time at Durham, such as taking part in music ensembles, student radio and being on the leadership team for the university's online student magazine 'The Bubble' in my final year.

What are your fondest memories of your time here?:

One of my favourite Durham memories is having been part of a student production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar', produced by the Castle Theatre Company and performed at Collingwood College. I enjoyed seeing various student theatre productions throughout my time at Durham and it was a highlight of my university experience to play a role in the show. I also enjoyed attending several balls at the university - particularly the Classics Society's 'Saturnalia Ball' which took place in Durham Cathedral. My graduation at the Cathedral surrounded by friends and family would also, of course, be a huge highlight of my time at the university!

What have you been up to since you left Durham?:

After graduating from Durham, I pursued a career in journalism and studied MA Broadcast Journalism at City University in London. I went on to freelance at ITN in London, working for Jeremy Vine, Channel 5 News and ITV News, later becoming staff at Channel 5 News. I'm now a producer at Sky News, working on news coverage for all programmes across the channel.

How has Durham inspired you to get where you are today? Tell us about any career highlights and achievements.*:

I was involved in student media at Durham - co-hosting a show on 'Purple Radio' and being TV Editor of the university's online student magazine 'The Bubble', becoming part of its leadership team in my final year. The experience gained from these roles helped me to pursue a Master's degree in Broadcast Journalism following my undergraduate studies at Durham. My Classics degree also provided me with transferrable skills in critical thinking and research which I've been able to apply in my work as a journalist.

What would be your top piece of advice for anyone considering studying at Durham?:

I would advise anyone considering studying at Durham to think about what they want to get out of their time at university. Not only what it is that they want to achieve with their academic studies, but how they want to involve themselves in student life. Look at which of the colleges might suit you best and attend an open day or a post-offer visit day if you can.
