About this course

Developing participants' capacity for strategic thinking and decision-making. This short course explores strategic analysis, competitive dynamics, organisational strategy formulation and implementation, and how to navigate uncertainty in complex environments. Participants will apply strategic frameworks to real challenges from their own organisations.

 

On this course you will learn how to: 

  • Understand the process of developing strategy.
  • Implement strategy, developing business models, cases and plans.
  • Analyse competitive and contextual environments.
  • Enhance ability to formulate strategic choices.

 

Venue and experience

The programme will be held at Durham University Business School’s state-of-the-art Waterside Building, offering modern teaching spaces and an inspiring learning environment. Lunch will be included across all days, allowing participants to focus fully on learning and networking.

Dr Simon Haslam, Visiting ProfessorSimon Haslam

Dr Simon Haslam is a strategy consultant with an international client base spanning public, private, and third-sector enterprises. He is Programme Lead for Strategy at the Institute of Directors and Chair of the Academic Fellows at the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI). A Chartered Director and 19 Executive Education Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, he also serves on the Advisory Committee at the Institute of Consulting.

Simon owns FMR Research Ltd, a market and social research firm whose work has been cited in Westminster and Scottish Parliaments. A Certified Management Consultant, he has twice been a finalist in the CMI/Institute of Consulting UK ‘Consultant of the Year’ awards. 

Simon teaches and supervises postgraduate students at the Irish Management Institute, Strathclyde Business School, Stirling Management School, and Durham University Business School, where he has delivered strategy modules for our bespoke programmes.
