On April 16th 2021, Ustinov College marked what would have been the 100th birthday of the late Sir Peter Ustinov, former Durham University Chancellor and namesake of Ustinov College. Numerous events took place over this period, organised by both the College and the Graduate Common Room.
Monday 12th April - Ustinov GCR hosted a virtual outdoor movie experience, showing 'The Way Ahead', a film written by Sir Peter Ustinov, aged 21, and starring David Niven.
Wednesday 14th April - GCP ‘Ustinov Meets…’ interview with David Arkless. David is an internationally recognised voice in the fields of human rights and global citizenship, and has worked with international organisations, governments and across major global initiatives throughout the course of his career. He is currently contributing to Durham’s MBA programme and sits on the Business School Advisory Board. David is a former Durham University student and as such, enjoys supporting initiatives at college level, including funding Ustinov College's Arklight Research & Travel Awards.
Friday 16th April - Video messages were released from Professor Stuart Corbridge, Vice Chancellor of Durham University, with reflections on Sir Peter’s significant contribution to both Durham University and Ustinov College, during his time as Chancellor. We also released a video message from Sir Peter's son, Igor Ustinov, Chairman of the Ustinov Foundation to mark this special date, and a tribute from Ustinov College Principal, Professor Glenn McGregor.
Thursday 22nd April - GCR held a virtual quiz with a Ustinov theme.
The 'Ustinov 100' competition closed on Monday 12 April.
Winners were announce on Friday 16 April with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as decided by our Principal, Glenn McGregor. Please see the winners below.
