How to Apply for Scan Time

The Durham Engineering XCT Laboratory welcomes enquiries from across academia and industry. Whether you are a researcher with a specific project, a postgraduate student in need of imaging for your thesis, or a company exploring what XCT can do for you, we would like to hear from you.

Who can access the lab

Scan time is available to:

• Researchers and students within Durham University
• Researchers and students at other universities and research institutions
• Industry and commercial partners, whether you need a one-off scan as a paid service or a longer-term research collaboration

We support everything from a single scan to multi-year projects, and we are happy to advise even if you are not yet sure whether XCT is right for your sample.

How it works

Every project is a little different, so we start with a conversation. Get in touch with a short description of your sample and what you hope to learn, and our team will advise on the most suitable scanner, the likely imaging approach, and what to expect in terms of timing and cost. From there we can arrange access in whatever way suits your project best.

Cost

Rates differ for internal and external users, for students and researchers, and for academic and commercial work. Because of this, we provide a tailored quote for each enquiry rather than a fixed price list.
