Prof Rosi Song, Professor of Hispanic Studies at Durham University, has edited the latest issue of Gastronomica, the journal dedicated to exploring the cultural, social and political dimensions of food.

The Fall 2026 issue, volume 26, issue 3, is now available online, bringing together new research, creative nonfiction and photography exploring the relationships between food, migration and the networks that connect people and communities.

Exploring migration and food networks

The issue has a particular focus on migration and food networks, examining the ways food travels with people and how culinary practices, provisioning and nourishment can shape relationships and communities.

Contributions explore topics including trust building, food networks, provisioning and nourishment. The issue also features a special section on migrant foodways and culinary mobilities in Japan, offering new perspectives on the movement of people, food and culinary practices.

Prof Song also wrote the issue's Editorial Letter, reflecting on the themes that connect the contributions and drawing on her own experiences of moving and living across the globe, from South Korea to Paraguay and the United States, and now the UK.

Behind the issue

Prof Song recently joined Melissa Fuster of Gastronomica's Editorial Collective for a podcast discussing the new issue and the work involved in bringing it together.

In the episode, Prof Song talks about the background to issue 26.3, the inspiration behind her Editorial Letter and the experiences that shaped its thematic focus. The conversation also introduces some of the research and creative work featured in the issue.

The episode, “The Next Issue: Fall 2026 (26.3)”, is available through the New Books Network.
