We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a range of events within the Durham Global Week 2024 programme. Durham Global Week is a celebration of the university's international impact, through our students, staff and connections. Durham Global Week will take place from February 24 to March 3, 2024 and include over 30 events for staff, students, our the local and international communities and to enjoy.
The Centre for Foreign Language Study will be hosting the following events:
A Journey into Intercultural Identity
Friday 01 March | 12 -4pm | Leech Hall | St Johns College
This event promises to be an engaging afternoon exploring the diverse yet interconnected layers of our collective and individual cultural identities. The event will consist of two components:
i. lecture/workshop (12-2pm) ii. exhibition (2-4pm)
You're welcome to attend both, or just the exhibition. Registration is required for the lecture/ workshop.
Connecting Worlds: Japanese Language and Cultural Exchange
Wednesday 28 Feb | 4 - 6pm | Lafcadio Hearn Cultural Centre, Teikyo University Durham
Join us for a delightful evening celebrating Japanese language and culture. Dive into the art of origami with our interactive paper folding workshop, immerse yourself in captivating language and cultural presentations, and more. This event promises the opportunity to embrace the allure of Japan, connect with like-minded enthusiasts, and experience the warmth of our diverse community.

Intercultural Communication Workshop
28 February | 2-4pm | Elvet Riverside - ER143
This workshop aims to enhance our understanding of intercultural communication, question our different views of culture and to explore the complex relationship between identity, culture and language from a critical perspective. Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, we will reflect on the practical relevance of intercultural communication concepts to real-life scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and application.
