ASEAN Regulatory Sustainability Summit – Building Resilience while Navigating Global Shifts

The Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy (CSDLP) at Durham University is pleased to be collaborating with the Securities Commission Malaysia on the inaugural ASEAN Regulatory Sustainability Summit at Durham University on 9 September 2026.

The Summit will be an intimate closed-door dialogue with senior capital market regulators, academics and industry experts to exchange insights on some of the most pressing sustainability challenges facing the ASEAN region and the wider international financial community.

Under the theme ‘Building Resilience while Navigating Global Shifts’, discussions will consider how countries, markets and companies can build resilience in the face of changing geopolitical, economic and sustainability pressures.

The programme will explore key topics under four panel discussions:

• Country and Market Resilience: Navigating emerging sustainability trends, risks and opportunities that are shaping the global sustainability landscape.
• Company Resilience and Effective Disclosures: Considering the role of sustainability disclosures in helping businesses identify, manage and adapt to climate-related risks and opportunities.
• Financing Adaptation and Transition: Exploring how private, commercial, concessional and philanthropic capital can be mobilised to support climate adaptation and transition.
• High-Integrity Voluntary Carbon Markets: Examining the evolving architecture of voluntary carbon markets with a focus on strengthening integrity through standards, Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems, registries and regulatory oversight.

The Summit will feature contributions from Dato' Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia; Professor Petra Minnerop, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability) and Founding Director of CSDLP; Professor Elisa Morgera, UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change and Human Rights and Professor of International Law and Sustainability at Durham University; and speakers from organisations including the University of Hong Kong’s Asia Global Institute, the London School of Economics, the UK Financial Conduct Authority, the International Sustainability Standards Board, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and international financial institutions.
