The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) is a world-leading research institute in hazard, risk and resilience-based at Durham University. We support innovative research and training for use in policy and practice, collaborating directly with communities, NGOs and governments. Our commitment is to work with and learn from the widest possible range of stakeholders living with hazard and risk – empowering people, fostering resilience, and improving lives, both now and in the future.
Our success stems from our capacity to approach complex problems holistically, drawing together a transdisciplinary team of experts from across the physical sciences, the social sciences and the humanities. We train individuals to work with complex situations, in order to respond proactively to hazard and risk-related challenges. With over ten years of field-defining research, we are a growing community of researchers and practitioners, engaged in a wide range of projects across the globe.
IHRR at Durham University provides an intellectual space for academics and graduate students who wish to spend time in the UK researching hazard, risk and resilience. The Institute can provide links to core academics researching hazard, risk and resilience, as well as relevant research students in the University.
We work with people in a variety of ways including delivering the Risk Masters with the Geography Department, working with and funding PhD students, and hosting short term visitors.
