The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) and the Department of Geography hosted the final event of the Overlooked Cities grant on the 10-11 June 2024.

The Overlooked Cities Collective hosted its final event of the Urban Studies Foundation seminar series grant titled "Overlooked Cities: Thinking and doing global urban studies differently" in Durham 10-11 June 2024. You can see an overlook of the event, or read the full programme on the Overlooked Cities Collective website.

The keynote speakers included Professor Jenny Robinson, Chair of Human Geography at UCL, and Professor Hyun Bang Shin, Head of the Department of Geography and Environment at LSE. Professor Mary Lawhon, the Personal Chair of Political Ecology at the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Danny MacKinnon, Director for the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies at Newcastle University, reflected on how overlookedness relates to their work.

We had speakers from the region, from the UK and international. The overlookedness fieldtrip to Bishop Auckland was led by Professor Danny MacKinnon, and Dr Sanne Velthuis - a Research Associate at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies at Newcastle University.

The first two events were held in Bandung, Indonesia in Sept 2023 and Bloemfontein, South Africa in October 2023.  We look forward to continuing the work on overlookedness through our collective.
