Dr Bhim Kumar Dahal is an assistant professor in Geotechnical Engineering at the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr Dahal's research specialises in soil improvement techniques, landslide monitoring and mitigation, and road design and construction. He attained his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China in 2018. Prior to working in academia, Dr Dahal worked in industry in the planning and management of construction and maintenance activities related to rural roads, irrigation systems, buildings, and water supply.
Dr Dahal is working with Dr Ellen Robson and Prof. David Toll on the development of road cut slope guidelines for Nepal, currently funded by Durham University's Research Impact Fund. During his visit, Dr Dahal was able to meet with multiple landslide researchers based in the UK, including Dr Gareth Hearn. He also presented the findings from his recent journal article: "Sustainable rural infrastructure: guidelines for roadside slope excavation" (Paudyal et al. 2023) and visited the coastal landslides in Whitby.
