What we do

We create the conditions for research evidence to inform policy, strategy and practice.

The Policy Hub connects the Business School's research strengths with the people and organisations shaping public policy and economic life. We support purposeful exchange: helping researchers understand policy needs, helping decision-makers access relevant evidence, and creating space for partners to develop ideas together.

Translate research into usable evidence

We support the development of clear, accessible policy outputs drawn from the School's research. These may include policy briefs, white papers, evidence syntheses and rapid contributions to consultations or calls for evidence.

Convene evidence-led dialogue

We bring researchers, policymakers, business leaders and civic partners together through policy roundtables, leadership forums, briefings and public events. These conversations help clarify challenges, test assumptions and connect evidence with action.

Build strategic partnerships

We develop relationships across local, regional, national and international policy networks. Initial priorities include collaboration with the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, active liaison with the University Policy Hub, and engagement with regional policy bodies including Insight North East.

Strengthen research impact

We help academics frame pathways from research to policy and practice, including stakeholder mapping, theory of change, evaluation and the development of impact case studies.

Build policy-engagement capability

We aim to develop an annual programme of support for researchers, including early career researchers, research centre directors and postgraduate researchers. Topics may include horizon scanning, writing for policymakers, giving evidence and communicating research through the media.

Respond to policy opportunities

Working with colleagues across the School and University, the Hub can help coordinate timely contributions to consultations, calls for evidence and parliamentary or public inquiries where relevant expertise is available.
